“Dr. Rama Prasad Goenka, fondly known as R.P. Goenka, was a visionary industrialist and the founder of the RPG Group, established in 1979. Belonging to a business family with a legacy spanning over 200 years, he played a pivotal role in expanding the Group across diverse sectors.

Widely respected for his entrepreneurial leadership, Dr. Goenka was often referred to as the “Takeover Tycoon” for his remarkable business acumen and strategic vision. Beyond the corporate world, he made significant contributions to education and public service. He founded the International Management Institute (IMI), India’s first corporate-sponsored business school and served as the Chairman of IIT Kharagpur for two terms.

Dr. Goenka was also the President of FICCI and served as a Member of Parliament from 2000 to 2006. In recognition of his global contributions to business and international relations, he was honoured with the prestigious “Order of the Sacred Treasure” by the Emperor of Japan.
